New Times Music Awards – Second Place

The Tipsy Gypsies won second place for Best Song at the New Times Music Awards on Saturday night.

We showed up immediately following a show we played earlier in the day just in time to see the end of the Damon Castillo Band’s set. We had a good time, drinking and laughing at the event in all of it’s silliness, when all of a sudden they called us to the stage.

It turns out that the judges liked ‘Love Don’t Come Cheap’, a song from our upcoming album and we won second place.

So thanks New Times and everyone who put on the show, and cheers to second place!

Starting work on New Album

Successfully wrapped drum tracks last Sunday for our new album.

We are working at Laurel Lane studios, the Central Coast’s best kept secret. The tones coming out of this place are bar none! And Kristian is one of the quickest and easiest-to-work-with engineers I’ve ever had the pleasure to record with.

The studio is run by the Damon Castillo band, and we want to give them props for helping us out.  Check out their new album, ‘Laurel Lane’ , it’s killer!

More to come….

The Tipsy Gypsies

It was an Eventful Show…

It was a packed house.

“The Sheik Of Araby”, a hit from the twenties, was just hitting it’s peak. Toan and I were trading solos and trying to outdo each other, unleashing a furious barrage of speed picking licks.

Just when it seemed we couldn’t bring the energy up any higher, the drum stool that I sat on broke in half.

I fell backwards onto the ledge of the stage and just kept on playing, laughing hysterically. The place light up.

We finished the song and I stood up to an uproar of applause. I said something dumb on the microphone and picked up my stool, in three pieces. One piece fell to the floor with a loud thump and an eruption of laughter was heard.

The bartender brought over another chair and we launched right into the next song.

It was a great night.

The Tipsy Gypsy show at the Clubhouse in San Luis Obispo – 3.20.09

Tipsy:

Tipsy Definition: The usual signs are a flushed face, stupid grin, loud voice and a love for all mankind. They feel they are intelligent & insightful, yet prone to giggles.
